Task2 KB4
The Role of TV for Learning
The development of television as an electronic mass
media initially began with the presence of a television camera invented by
Vladimir Zworykin in 1923. Television began broadcasting news and entertainment
regularly so the development of television as mass media entered the popular
stage.
At this time there are still many people who argue that
television has a lot of evil compared to its benefits to society. This is none
other because in modern times there are so many shows that should not be aired,
such as the existence of a film that shows the tragedy of domestic violence or
acts of beating and especially rape. This is not good if watched by children
who are still in their infancy, because it can affect their psychological
state. But there are not a few television shows that provide a spectacle that
is beneficial to society, and is considered to be able to change people's
behavior towards a positive direction. such as, religious recitation, religious
lectures, cooking shows that can provide information about recipes, present-day
shows that provide information on religious knowledge that are packaged in such
a way that the community is easier to digest. Television broadcast (TV) is a
very powerful media (a powerful medium) in disseminating information to the
public simultaneously. Television also has a broad reach and is able to negate
the geographical, social, political and cultural boundaries of the viewer
community.
It is important for us to know that television also has
enormous potential in influencing a person's attitude, creativity, motivation,
outlook on life, lifestyle, and also community orientation. Television media as
a medium that is proven to have a very effective ability so that it is used to
broadcast learning programs for the community nationally.
In the context of education, messages educate many who
use television media for their channels and methods of distribution.
Educational activities through television media are part of the process of
informal education in our society today.
Television as a learning media has several advantages, including:
1. Wide reach
2. Looks attractive and modern
3. Showing objects or activities that cannot be seen directly by the
wider community
4. Its direct and real nature
According to Yunus (1942: 78) in his book Attarbiyatu
Watta'Liim revealed (Azhar Arsyad, 2002: 16) that learning media has the
greatest influence on the senses and can better guarantee the understanding of
people who listen not the same level of understanding and what they understand
compared with those who see, or see and hear it. Furthermore Ibrahim (1946:
342) explained how important media is because the media arouses excitement and
joy for students and renews their enthusiasm to impart knowledge to the minds
of students and to bring lessons to life.
The habit of watching television together or
individually in a family environment, besides being useful as entertainment can
also add insight and knowledge. Residents can find out what is happening in
this world by watching television broadcasts. For example, without having to
read the newspaper, community members will know the latest news about what is
happening in other countries. Even the eruption of the volcano was known from
television broadcasts, not from newspapers. Television is also very useful for
agrarian societies. By watching various television programs that greatly
support the agricultural business. The village farmers also became aware of
good farming methods, and how to maintain good livestock to quickly breed.
From television, citizens can also obtain knowledge
about various businesses that are carried out so that environmental conditions
are maintained so that the environment in which they live still supports their
lives, as well as other useful knowledge. Audio visual learning is different from
learning through reading books. Knowledge that is only in the form of words is
difficult to imagine. Moreover, it requires a focus on something that is being
read. Maybe there are, we will actually feel bored and the knowledge that is
read will be easily forgotten.
As an information medium, television shows are able to
provide actual and fast information. Television shows can display information
at the same time when an event occurs and at that time all of Indonesia can
watch it simultaneously at the same time. In addition, television shows can
also broadcast information from all corners of the world so that Indonesian
people can find out about natural disasters in other countries without having
to come to the country.
