1.       Describe your best teacher colleague  in terms of his/her physical and mental appearances.

According to Javanese proverbs, the teacher comes from the word "digugulan imitated" which means a person who is a role model for his students. In addition, teachers are professional educators with the main task of educating, teaching, guiding, directing, training, evaluating and evaluating students.

As a worker in the world of education and at the same time a teacher, the responsibility of a teacher is very large. Not only teaching, giving subject matter but more on how we educate students to be good individuals, which are useful for the lives of students themselves, especially teachers are parents to their students in school.

As a fellow teacher, I like fellow teachers. Not only because the teacher is engrossed, beautiful or handsome, but because the teacher is absorbed when giving subject matter to his students. And it is true that giving material to children is better brought in an atmosphere that is not too tense and makes children stressed. But among all the fellow teachers is one that I really admire. He is a Mathematics teacher at the school where I teach.

I am amazed because he is a good person, full of smile and fun. When taught by it, it never feels like students are bored or bored with their lessons. He works with dedication. He is a professional in his work. To his fellow teachers, he always provides motivation, support and enthusiasm. He is not only a teacher, but also like friends and even brothers to me.

In terms of his daily appearance he is always dressed neatly, politely and modestly. I was also amazed because I saw him great as an educator in school and also as a mother for children and his wife for her husband at home. He is still doing his activities serving his husband and children despite his illness.

I admire him because he is indeed the best teacher partner I have ever met at school.

SMP Negeri 3 Tanah Tumbuh

SMP Negeri 3 Tanah Tumbuh , built in 2006 by several local community leaders who care about education. .

SMP Negeri 3 Tanah Tumbuh has 5 permanent buildings which are 6 for classrooms, 1 library, 1 for the teacher's room, 1 for the principal's office, 3 for the toilet, and 1 for the student toilet. Using government funding, school facilities were also developed to have a good learning environment.

Since fifteen years, there have been hundreds of students who have graduated from this school and they have continued their studies. Some students studying in this school get some achievements in sports, arts, and several competitions. The school gets a lot of trophies placed in the principal's room.

1. Analyze parts of the learning activities throughout Module 1

Learning Activity 1

The three personal letters show some differences, yet they also share some similarities in terms of social function, text structure, and lexicon-grammatical feature.

In terms of social function, they are generally written to help people in building and maintaining personal relationship. But more than that, each sender has his/her own purposes. The first letter specifically sent to reconnect, ask and share news to an old friend who lives away. The second is sent to make a new friendship relation and the third is to respond the previous letter sent to her.

In terms of structure, each of them has greeting, body of the letter, and closing. It is just different in some detail part of each structure.

In terms of lexico-grammatical feature, all of them use simple present to tell personal news, past tenses to share past experiences. But they are different in some features. The first letter has the date written on top, using casual greeting ‘Dear Fatima’ and ‘Love’ in the closing part showing close relation. The second and the third letter has no date and the greeting is casual but not as intimate as the first letter.

Learning Activity 2

Both printed and spoken announcements have the same general purpose, it is to share information publicly about what has happened or will happen. The structure is not quite different, with the heading at the beginning and followed by some details of the information. The spoken announcement begins with greeting before coming to the point of announcement while the printed forms usually have title on top of the announcement. Besides, in spoken announcement, the introduction of the announcer is usually done at the beginning of the announcement while the printed form is usually at the end of the announcement. Spoken announcements also requires the speaker to pay attention to the pronunciation and intonation to make the information clear while the printed one is focusing on the punctuation marks and other requirements of a good writing.

Learning Activity 3

An analytical expository text should be well-planned and well-structured to be a good one. It is structured respectively from thesis to introduce the case and writer’s position, Arguments to support his position, and reiteration to strengthen the thesis. Through a good analytical exposition, the writers are able to persuade the reader that the case he is talking about is important by stating strong arguments to support his position. Arguments are well supported with clear explanations and evidences.

Learning Activity 4

Hortatory exposition text, which aims to persuade the readers about what they should do and should not be done, consists of thesis as the introduction of the idea/phenomenon that will be discussed. Then followed by an argument which contains the opinions to make the idea proposed by the writer trusted. And the last is recommendation which states the writer’s suggestion to do or not doing something regarding things have been discussed.

The particular modul provides a lot of teaching and knowledge especially in understanding the types of text, structure, lexico gramatical in a text.

Of course it was very useful for me as a teacher who taught English as a foreign language. where the material is the basic material in understanding English which is very complex. especially, in the 21th century where a teacher is not only required to master the material taught but also to master technology as a supporter of effective learning.

Then, the particular module will be very useful for my students in terms of how to train their understanding of the function of the text and how to write good and correct texts based on the correct rules.

Final Assignment Modul 4

As the final assignment, you will analyze one text of each type that you yourselves will find from an authentic source (e.g. newspaper, magazine), hence 1 news report, 1 caption, 1 advertisement, 1 review.

You will analyze each text in terms of (1) the social function, (2) text structure, and (3) lexico grammatical features.

Finally, summarize the analysis of each text type in the form of a short report.

Passenger Plane Crashes On Take Off in Northern Mexico

Dozens of people were injured as an airliner crashed on takeoff during a heavy hail storm in northern Mexico, engulfing the plane in flames, the airline and passengers said Tuesday.

Passengers said there had been "a strange movement" on takeoff and "that was when the accident happened," Durango Governor Jose Rosas told the Milenio television channel.

Dozens of lightly injured passengers left the plane, which was engulfed in gray smoke in a field. Witnesses said there were "about 80 injured."

The plane carrying 97 passengers and four crew heading from Durango to the capital Mexico City, "crashed on take off" around 4:00 pm (2100 GMT), the country's Transport Minister Gerardo Ruiz Esparza said on Twitter.

Emergency services, the army and the Red Cross were on the scene.

Aero mexico said it was "working to verify the information and gather details."

The first images of the crash site shared on social and Mexican media showed a plane partially immersed in flames.

"I pray that the crew and all the passengers are OK," said Mexico President Enrique Pena Nieto.

4. REVIEW

The Lord of the Rings is a fairy-tale of myth and fantasy. Peter Jackson directed a film that was considered, for a very long time, impossible to make, and not only for technical reasons. The narrative roots are incredibly long and detailed, and the storyline is deeply connected with the creation of a fantastic continent from a time unknown called `Middle Earth'. Its author, Tolkien, dedicated a considerable part of his life developing this continent's background, its mythology and origins, its different kinds of people, cultures and languages, and therefore its geographic references are determinant to the unfolding of the story of the One Ring.

An ancient Ring thought lost for centuries has been found, and through a strange twist in fate has been given to a small Hobbit named Frodo. When Gandalf discovers the Ring is in fact the One Ring of the Dark Lord Sauron, Frodo must make an epic quest to the Cracks of Doom in order to destroy it! However he does not go alone. He is joined by Gandalf, Legolasthe elf, Gimli the Dwarf, Aragorn, Boromir and his three Hobbit friends Merry, Pippin and Samwise. Through mountains, snow, darkness, forests, rivers and plains, facing evil and danger at every corner the Fellowship of the Ring must go. Their quest to destroy the One Ring is the only hope for the end of the Dark Lords reign.

The greatest thing about this film, to me, is that it brought me back to a time when I was in love with a different world where everything was possible. Reading The Lord of the Rings night after night, I came to understand what this thing of `mankind' really was all about. This film could capture that magic, and be a new bearer to its message of humanism, is a statement to its greatness. Gandalf's words, that even the smallest person may change the course of the world, and have a part to play in the destiny of all, are immortal.

In the end, this is a wonderful film, but that doesn't mean you are going to like it. I cannot tell you what it is like to see this film if you don't know or love the book. But I hope it may plant a seed on your heart to discover a great world of fantasy, beauty and humanity. I believe Tolkien would have liked that.

Summary

            News reports are found in newspapers and their purpose is to inform readers of what is happening in the world around them. The social function of news report is to inform the target readers, listeners, and viewers about events which are considered important and relevant to them by summarizing the event by mentioning only the important points in first paragraph and tells the events in details by providing the details of the important points, as stated by the sources such as authority, source person, witness. In order to have a good news report, we should use telegraphic information about story captured in headline, direct and indirect sentences to report the events according to witness(es) and the source person and use past tenses. Using prepositional phrases to state the circumstances briefly will help the readers understand the news. Using clause will make our sentence in news report will be more attractive.

            As a text, the caption is used to explain or elaborate on published photograph, by describing the photograph, giving context, or relating it to the article. This can make the article more interesting to read. A good caption must be regarded by the process of the event briefly, the participants in the process and to make it easy understood we should put the circumstances of the process: mostly of place and time, providing context to the picture by using complete sentences and use of Simple Present Tense in the main sentence, Simple Past Tense in the following sentences.

            Advertisement is a short interesting functional text. The Social Function of this text is to persuade listeners or readers to buy or to use the product or services being advertised or to convince products, services, or events to the public. A good ad should be clear in a purpose which built the advertisement, product names and the target readers. Besides, Coinage will make ad more interesting because coined words make lively and eye-catching. Comparative and Superlative Adjective will also make ad more convincing, while compound word will gives the readers a sense of closeness. To have a good command so the reader will be interested, we have to use Imperative Sentence and Disjunctive Clause.

            The way to express our opinion of film, novel, and other product is to review it. Review is an appreciation or an evaluation of a publication, such as a movie, book, novel, etc. which contains the orientation/introduction paragraph as its background to tell the products. Concluding statement, opinion, recommendation should be the next paragraph which called Evaluation by telling the chronology or characteristic of the product, film, music, or novel. To state our opinion, it must be at the last paragraph because it could be the conclusion for our opinion of the product, film, movie, novel or music.
