REFLECTIVE SUMMARY M4 LA 2

You will reflect on your learning the news reports with this module, by answering the following questions.

a.       What knowledge and skills are new to you?

Knowledge and skill that I have gained in Module 4 Learning Activity 2 are as follows:

·         I know how to analyze the social function of captions, including the highlight, the context, and the relationship with the headline. The social function of caption is to explain or elaborate on published photograph.

·         I know how to analyze the structures of captions, including the process, the participants, and the circumstances

·         I know about the lexico-grammatical features of captions namely

-       Use of grammatically complete sentences: Subject – verb – object/complement – prepositional phrase

-       Use of simple present tense in the main sentence, simple past tense in the following sentences

-       Use of prepositional phrases to state the circumstances, mostly place and time.

b.      Which activities did you find the most difficult or complicated? Do you think they are actually necessary to do? Explain your answers. 

The most difficult and complicated activities is when it’s needed to identify the similarities and differences between different types of captions in regard to the social functions, text structures, and lexico-grammatical features. It’s necessary to do to get better knowledge about captions

c.       What would you suggest to do to improve the module?

The learning tasks should provide the files needed in the task or questions being asked. I didn’t find 20 captions in this module. It is better to attach 20 captions in the task especially for Learning Task M 4 LA 2. So, the students do not feel confused and we can do the task well
